Meeting Poem by Midnight Clarity

Meeting

Rating: 5.0

Am I the words I speak?
the smile that parts my lips?
Am I sunshine, am I shadow,
am I poison, am I wine
to intoxicate the senses?
a garden path to lead you
all astray, will o’ the wisp
to drown you in the bog
of deep sensation if you
accept the invitation
to the dance?
Am I a question?
or the answer
to the lonely pleas
not recognized as praying
in the quiet panic
of the night at deepest dark
and if I meet you will I
taunt you, laugh and leave you
bleeding as I tear
your heart to shreds
litter you like junk mail
scattered on the path
you hoped to share;
or am I bedrock, truth
you can rely on, hold
and cherish for a lifetime
or a moment until the far side
of a heartbeat breaks the spell
and we are people, shy and meeting
for the first time, hermit crabs
without the shell.
