Memories, Long Ago Poem by Darwin Henry Beuning

Memories, Long Ago

Rating: 5.0

My oldest daughter
Kim
As a teenager
Her favorite expression
'That's not fair'

I would say
No one ever said
Life would be fair

I would rush
And get her
Birth Certificate

Have her check it out
Read the small print
Front and back

Not to be found,
'Life will be fair'
The only guarantee

'A last breath'

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
My daughter, Kim, now age 46, happily married these many years. With a teenage son, who says, 'that's not fair'. In life, things repeat.
COMMENTS OF THE POEM
Michael Walker 12 February 2019

A NZ sportsman, whose son was killed in Bali, said: 'Life is not fair. Nothing is fair'. A fair comment on life. As your last lines say, the birth certificate is linked to the death certificate. A poem I will remember.

i 'love' your Poet's Notes! ! :) i must now determine IF i have a birth certificate; rumor has it that i, like The Man of Steel, arrived here from another planet in a 'space vehicle'. if i find one, i shall endeavor to find the guarantees, if any, which came to me at birth! ! ! ice cream daily? ? ? bri ;) to MyPoemList. p.s. Don't give Kim any more 'ideas.

How many times have other parents heard the same thing? Life will always continue to be unfair. If life were fair, I would have all of Donald Trump's money, and he would have real hair! Hmmmmm... you may have just given me an idea for a new poem!
