Monster Poem by Kewayne Wadley

Monster

You've made a monster of me,
Replacing my smile with hideous snarls.
Saying I belong in the dark.
Knowing that, that was the only time you called me.
Leaving me to play hide and seek by myself taking forever to count to ten.
Still hiding, waiting for you to come find me
Not knowing the game has ended.
Naive, never knowing you at all.
The times spent together that truly felt like heaven turned to hell by
The change of your mood.
Naive, still laughing at the jokes shared between you and I.
Never truly knowing why you kept me under lock and key.
Protecting your heart behind walls.
Lit torches and light weight pitchforks.
Slowly watching your uneasy smile reason you never come around anymore.
Reason to wear revealing clothes
Crying wolf when in reality there were no nails or claws to tear the rest of your clothes.
An abusive manner that leaves behind bruises and mental scars.
Ignoring the films of smoke, that you were my addiction.
Never becoming the right time.
Finding serenity in another place at another time.
Give me the chance to live again.
As soon the truth reveals itself.
They will grab their pitchforks and await your arrival
Just as the monster you made me
