Must Go On - Poem by Andre Leal

The days seem longer and shorter at the same time,
Nights just follow with loneliness as nightmares creep in my mind,
Mornings I thank God, my prayers keep me alive,
My heart sometimes just wants to give up; Trying to stay together even
Thought is broken like a puzzle with missing slots,
So, here I’m comforting my thoughts in a page that’s blank,
Blank like my insides, blank like my thought of the past,

I feel stones that weight on my heavy heart, and my head I try to keep up,
Wishing I had a head brace to keep it looking forward instead of behind,
Steps I take tripping always into traps set by my mind,
Steps I wish I did not have to take but instead I’m force to move on,
Loneliness is here again and I’m sorry paper that I must in you write tonight,
This sorry feelings of a broken heart,
Sorry that you must take the punishment of my deepest thoughts,
Forgive me you are the only one I could trust,

My fingers search for the right words to write searching like a hard drive,
Hoping things would change but instead they are the same night after night,
They hold on to the pen just like you used to hold on to my heart,
Cant put it down; it continues hoping the end is near hoping there’s nothing else to write,
Unfortunately I don’t seem to want to stop,
So, my brain tells my heart to stop; But, my heart tells my finger they must go on.
