Must We Always Part In Autumn Poem by Susan Lacovara

Must We Always Part In Autumn

Rating: 5.0

Just as the myriad of colors begin to tumble
Just as the sweating summer waves her final farewell
Just as the winds change from gentle breezes,
To the threat of gales...

I hide my heart in my hip pocket,
Pretend that I can rake up all my sorrow seeing you leave...
Only to watch the temperature dropping
Like my tears...

Must We always part in Autumn
As ripened pumpkins are pulled from the vine
Now you too, are harvested from me...
And sent to a Farmer's Market, southward bound....

Amid the crimson, golden yellows, amber shades of burnt sienna
Crisp and crackling under my footfall
Aware I'll soon take to my solitary strolls...alone
All the while singing songs I hope will carry on the breeze to you.

Time now, the sun dips quicker in the afternoon sky...
Time soon, we'll say goodbye...
Must we always part in Autumn
As if the seasons do not know how much I love you.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
(9/13/13) For Dom...how quickly this summer passed...I can never get used to the spoken words of goodbye...so I hold onto the unspoken words of fare thee well, instead... with comfort in knowing it is the same Sun and moon we share, no matter the distance...we share heartbeats...safe travel, to you and Bob, into the next season..with love, I send you packing...PEACE.

I have always felt as if there is something sad being whispered by the leaves of autumn... whispers of goodbyes... I think autumn is a good time for goodbyes... and winter's rest makes room for spring... well penned bittersweet remorse.

Beautiful, his going is well expressed and the longing for him to stay is palpable.

A sad, but very, very sweet poem. I am moved! Thanks for the beautiful note too. The title is eye catching, heart touching. Over all, an excellent poem.10/10. 'I hide my heart in my hip pocket, Pretend that I can rake up all my sorrow seeing you leave... Only to watch the temperature dropping Like my tears...' This feels heavy with emotion. I can imagine how I would have felt, the same feeling. 'Now you too, are harvested from me... And sent to a Farmer's Market, southward bound....' So sweet! I haven't read such beautiful lines for many days now. Soft love, much akin to our culture, how our women feel in similar situation, thanks! 'Aware I'll soon take to my solitary strolls...alone All the while singing songs I hope will carry on the breeze to you.' Your songs are singing lullaby to my ears. 'Must we always part in Autumn As if the seasons do not know how much I love you.' Sigh....................................................................................
