My Friend Is Leaving Poem by Tia Maria

My Friend Is Leaving

Rating: 5.0

For My Colleague & Very Good Friend ….
…. This is the beginning, not the end
Life will never quite be the same
But we understand who’s to blame

She cannot stay any longer
Her reason being Xenophobia
You see my friend is Afrikaans
Amongst us English she had no chance!

I would like to add at this stage
She really gets me back some days
My friend, is far more clever
I did not pass Afrikaans, ever!

I really thought my heart would melt
When some sayings she would muddle
She said one day she really felt
“Like a big fish in a small puddle”

And she just could not say ‘bud’
No matter how I tried to correct it
“Nip it in the butt! ” she said
That will always be my favorite

Then one day concerned for me
She earnestly turned to say
You must not be “ treated like a floormat”
I nearly died laughing that day

One more thing I have to say
I promise it’s the last assault
“Needles and pins” I must relay
Was not entirely her fault

When we both thought of that song
It really was the pits
Listening to Smokey is very wrong
That’s something nobody admits

Now that all the joking is done
It’s hard to make the next lines fun
Ag please shnoekie stay in touch
We will all miss you so very much

Bye bye my friend I really do pray
That everything will go your way
I will miss our lunches and laughter
But trust you will live happily ever after

Brilliant. You made me laugh. I hope you got to say that in a fair-well speech to her. I'm sure it would have made her cry to know she has such a great friend in you.

It's always hard when a friend leaves you, even worse if they did not intend to. lovely poem indeed.
