My God's Steadfast Love Poem by Marama Kelly

My God's Steadfast Love

In pain I've walked and pain I've talked
just to stand as the person God made
but the jealousies of men are heavy and dark
surrounding to take me right down

I will not give up or even give in
for no man did die for me
And if I was the last and only one alive
My Lord would still come for me

He promised me life in abundance to see
and protection from the onslaught of death
and through my devotion to love Him in truth
does His mantel spread over my life

And the wings of the dove do cover me up
as the eagle does soar in the sky
and the wind it does blow like a warmth filled with love
to encompass my body, mind and soul

So in pain I'll still walk, and in pain I'll still talk
for the curses of men will not touch
for the cloak that I wear is one given from God
to shield me from all in despair
