My Love Poem by Lara W.A

My Love

Rating: 5.0

My love
He came to me
That one solitary night
I wanted to disappear
He wanted some comfort.

Another broken night
A couple more bruises earned
A job that wasn’t fulfilling
A heart that cracked almost too easily.

We took a walk,
A new routine we tried to adapt
Running didn’t seem to get us anywhere
We ran out of gas before
We arrived where our feet hoped to go.

Sober and distant we were
The birds left for bed early
And the moon didn’t even care
It hid behind the trees
Refusing to share its glory with us.

I guess that’s what we needed
To be left alone
To deny our existence
Attention-seekers we weren’t
We’re victims of society’s overwhelming ‘tender loving care’.

My love
He didn’t know
He could have said nothing
And I would still have loved him -
This much.
Would still have thought of him as an angel -
An angel who knows no hatreds.

But my love,
He held my cold hands,
Whispered to my ears
These words:
“I hate running to you like this,
But you’re the only shelter I know.”
