Was walking by the sea with a heavy heart
Trying to figure myself out
The air was cool, the stars were bright
My heart was cold, hurt and tight
Suddenly I broke down and began to cry
Looking at the waves, as they rolled and died
Trying to find answers which will never come
God, Oh God, set me free, don't leave me tied
I picked up a pebble, big and round
It was also heavy, harsh and hard
Looked at its shape, feeling its weight
Same as my stone deeply buried in my heart
Held it in my hands for a few minutes more
Realizing what to do, I let out a sigh
With a swift run and a huge throw
The pebble flew far, long and high
Landing in the sea, it sank to the bottom
Finally was at peace, as there was no tomorrow
My heart lifted and its spirit rose
For with that pebble, I threw my sorrow
Creative and original use of a beach pebble as a metaphor for heaviness of heart, and casting the stone out to represent unburdening oneself. Nice, sincere poem. Good work. Look forward to reading more of yours.
