My Suitor's Words - Poem by Kalyani Rajalingham (Married to Dr. Kane)

My Suitor's Words

By Kalyani Rajalingham

A young man to his fair maiden:

"May this rose that I lay upon your chest,

Remind you of my undying love, tender and true,

May its perfume tend to your heart,

In days of lonesome company's bitter dins,

May this ring that I burden upon your finger,

Remind you of my weighted heart you clutch within,

May its burden be the only strife you greet,

Let my arms wither away melted sorrow,

Let our life flow against the ripples of the river,

To the valley of hearts, of memories past,

For your glance alone melts my frosted heart."
