New Year Epiphany Poem by ENOCH JOHN

New Year Epiphany

Rating: 5.0

In the new year I will take Descartes ''cogito ergo sum'' and play philosopher,
And I will try to put flame in every line of syntax,
I'll ask my muse again and again to speak more urgently.
Just as the day ends and the morning begins anew,
the old year wraps a weary coat around his shoulders,
and disappears into the annals of history;
Long after are heard the last melodious strains of Auld Lang Syne,
We hope the new year brings not tears but joyful song,
For the past year, ribbed like a human hand, a leaf, falls to the ground leaving only our fingerprints,
As the new like a brand new suit from a Paris or London boutique,
there is much eagerness and anticipation, even elation.
I can see fresh images like a pretty bride walking down the aisle adorned with all her accoutrements, and

I can imagine walking on the esplanade of hope far from the dark vertiginous clouds of trepidation,
In a new and splendid epiphany that is a rapturous delight,
The bright clear air in its phantasmal light alight and leaping with possibilities,
Of tall and stately casuarinas genuflecting to the wind in its exhilaration.
As many open champagne bottles and listen to music, I wonder
Will I spend my new year in the metropole or hide away in a cabin surrounded by some sylvan scene?
