No Conscience Poem by Sylvia Frances Chan

No Conscience

Rating: 5.0

No Conscience

Short
but powerful,
and needs the most attention!

do you remember?
Human smuggling?
this is not a joke

last night
47 foreigners
packed in a truck
crossing to England
it was in Hoek Van Holland
the driver was caught by a police dog
trained to smell human odors

Oh, poor souls
their journey comes to an end
spent so much money
even more in trouble now
the driver has been arrested
he has thrown his conscience far away

No Conscience
POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Poet's Note: a few years ago it was people from Asia some were even found frozen to death in a truck in Egeland, shortly after crossing from Western Europe; the driver simply left them in the frozen truck. This man had no conscience at all.
