Little girl
Sunshine face
So beaming
Eyes bulging
Lips smiling
So wanting
The cherries
Tasting them
In her mind
Stomach waits
Never full
So hungry
Her father
Whisks daughter
Away now
To poor side
Of aisles
Beauty of child and sorrow of the situation, ever so heart touchingly expressed! ..
My brother had shared that experience with me and I was so heart-broken that I felt I needed to write this poem. Even now as I eat cherries, I visualize that moment.
That image has invaded my mind...and eating cherries just isn't the same anymore.
