Not On My Side Of Sanity Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Not On My Side Of Sanity

I'm expected to be in place,
For those that are inconsistent?
And unreliable too?
I don't think so.
I may live in that kind of environment.
But being part of it,
Is not my commitment.
I'm not loyal to anyone's agonies.

I'm expected to sit and listen,
To others who boo-hoo about their every pain?
And I'm suppose to remain attached,
While they stay uninvolved to play games?
I do 'not' think so.
Not on my side of sanity.
People like that I leave alone.
And stay as distant as I can be!

I like to think of it as an indictment of our society. People will admit these wrongs as seen. However... where were the majority who now speak out against this brazen activity, when the initial stages were put into place? Ignoring them? Believing them to be someone else's issues? Isolating their concerns within their comfort zones? Now, not so comforting! So they formulate 'Tea Parties' and other vigilant gatherings. To serve what purpose? A late appearance? ! Those who chose to react to today's turmoil in the way they do, do so...not because of an indifference. They do so since this is easier than to have conflict with those ignorant who uphold such nonsense as a right! And we love to protect those 'rights'! No matter who suffers from our negligence to ensure all Americans benefit. Not the greedy few who created the mess in the first place. Thank you for your comments, Mark!
