Not To Look Beyond Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Not To Look Beyond

Many heard to say,
They want a better life lived.
But minds they have stay limited.
To what that means to have it given.

Many heard to say,
For them there has to be...
Another way to get their wishes.
While time squeezes their youth to dry.
As life and time away from them flies.

Some are taught,
At an early stage of age.
What to fear when it appears.
Limiting themselves,
To a comfort kept.
Close and near.
To not look beyond,
Fences that they build.
And to not look beyond,
Surrounding valleys and hills.

Many heard to say,
They want a better life to live.
But...
Not to look beyond,
Fences that they build.
And not to look beyond,
The valleys or the hills.

Many heard to say for them a better way is wished.
But...
Not to look beyond,
What their eyes can see.
And...
Not to look beyond,
For possibilities.

Many limit themselves,
To what is close and near.
And taught from early ages,
What they should fear.
And...
Not to look beyond,
What it is they should fear.
And...
Not to look beyond,
Who tells them they should fear.
And...
Not to look beyond the why.
With opened eyes.
And...
Not to look beyond the why.
