Not Wanting To Offend Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Not Wanting To Offend

When all has been said.
Heard to hear.
With no one left to volunteer,
Recommendations.
Or suggestions to make.
A few will gather,
To argue amongst themselves.
Over what was said to who.
That should not have been said,
Without first getting approval...
From the ones,
Sitting with their mouths closed.
To later say,
They did not want anyone...
Left feeling offended.

'You all had every opportunity,
To speak up.
And say what it was,
With a letting of that be known.
And you choose now,
To start an argument with me?
Because my choice of words,
You found to hear.
But did not then disagree?
What sense does that make? '

-We did not want,
To offend anyone.
But 'you'?
All you sought was attention! -

'Attention! ATTENTION!
The wheel that squeaks,
Gets the grease!
Cheese to want it,
Has to be made known! '

-You could have said that.
Instead of talking about,
How we had been...
Ignored.
Disenfranchised.
And made to live,
Disparaged in substandard...
Living conditions.
But NO!
You intentionally sought,
To embarrass us.
And our way of life! -

'You are so right.
All I wanted was the attention.
It was all about 'Me'!
For whatever the reason,
I love taking the heat.
And especially being attacked! '

-Well...
It's too late to admit that 'now'.-
