The novice's lament

I dont know
Maybe its me myself and i
I cast an eye on a poem,
read it 2 to 3 times with
my english dictionary by my side
i am more confused than when i started.
What mystery is in this poets mind.
Poem reads like a doctors prescription
the imaginery, metaphors, description
Hmm...then i think to myself,
may be i should have gone to poetry school, and i put the poem on the shelf
I thought the point is to communicate,
to leave a reader nodding, bobbing, or shaking their head after the heart strings are plucked.
If i dont connect with your word
your emotion
Yourmessage
Whats the point
I dont know.
Eh?
Maybe i should translate to the vernacular,
my native language Shona
or mix English and Shona to get Shonglish.
I fear Count Dracula the character
of the poem
Would suck my brains out never mind
the blood
Some poems are so cryptic
I can't be a critic
I dont understand
I take a stand
Put the poem on the stand,
read the next nursery rhyme
next thriller or crime.
What a waste of time!
Yet the poet had something to say
I wanted to feel their pain, fear, ode
whatever drives them
I m like damn,
say what?
I don't know.
This is my gripe
The novice's lament.

Each poet is unique in expression. Some poems are easy flow and easy to understand. Some carry deeper meanings.A critique interprets a poem according to his understanding. Many poems, though difficult, I go after them till I understand

Some poems are so cryptic........... incomprehensible poems are a chase of poets I think coz without poet no one knows the puzzling meaning these type poems, so new learner needs to avoid the cryptic poems and finds out the easy poems........though I think poem is the best inter connection of poet and reader
