Ode To Victor Hugo (15)the Bishop And -The Miserable- Mountebank

Ode To Victor Hugo (15)
The Bishop and "The MISERABLE" Mountebank
By: Freeyad Ibrahim
*
The bishop went with the mountebank
On the Scaffold
Silent
The man who had been desolate
Was now radiant
His soul was in piece
And he hoped for God
Shivering in excitement
The bishop kissed him
So benevolent
He said when the Knife
Was about to fall:
‘Whom man kills,
God restores to life;
Whom the brothers pursue,
The Father redeems
Pray and believe and go onward
Into life,
Your Father is there.
In all His Dignity.'

When the Bishop came down
There was something
In his gaze
Too upset was he
No one could have said,
Which was the more striking:
His pallor,
Or his serenity.
