Last night I turned the pages of a new atlas,
for a change of direction, to revisit places
I had seen in New Zealand and overseas long ago.
There were those I had been to, like Edinburgh,
where I heard English spoken in an engaging accent.
Keswick, where I stayed in a youth hostel
so I could see the Lake District nearby,
as Wordsworth saw it, highs and lows of emotion:
'Through passes yet unreached, a brighter road.'
On a guided walk there, An Englishman told me:
' I walk a lot. My wife and I had coronaries'.
We talked about the benefits of exercise
and we were on the same page about that.
On other pages were towns and cities
that I may never see: the west coast
of the U.S. where cities are part of song titles.
Phoenix, San Jose, Pasadena, and San Francisco
have all been on the charts in the past.
