Oriental Fire Bellied Toads - Lincoln Park Zoo Poem by Ima Ryma

Oriental Fire Bellied Toads - Lincoln Park Zoo

Oriental fire bellied toads,
Hopping hot at Lincoln Park Zoo.
Our bods are camouflaged loads,
Sitting still as we often do.
But predators out in the wild
Do on occasion spot us, so
Our bellies are message styled
In fiery colors warning woe
That eating us would be toxic,
Thanks to poisons that we can make.
A predator would get real sick,
So leave us be for good health sake.

In the Zoo, since we're not at prey,
Our bellies aren't on display.
