Our Generation Poem by Daya Nandan

Our Generation

Our generation of youths is in a terrible mess,
Our problems surround us like a wall built of stress
We indulge in superficial relationships but complain we are lonely,
Yet deep down all of us wish to find our one and only,

We are too afraid to open up because we fear we will get hurt,
So we rather keep things on the surface and simply flirt,
We fear commitment because of bad past experiences in life,
So we never put a 100% into finding a husband or wife,

We are fearful yet egoistic, we are trapped in a self-made prison,
We are the fallen children that have not yet risen,
We are addicted to likes on our facebooks, tinders and instagrams,
Like addicts that get a dopamine rush from cocaine in kilograms,

We are emotionally deprived, we are mentally drained,
We are mentally trapped, our hearts are chained,
We have different principles and philosophies from our fathers of old,
This is why we face difficulty finding peace within our soul.
