Our Poets Of The Day Poem by Francis Duggan

Our Poets Of The Day

They have taken the music from poetry the rhymer now is not seen as a poet
But just an ordinary poetaster not worthy of literary note
Even bush poets are not seen as worthy by those unable for to rhyme
Their work does seem prosaic and unmusical these self proclaimed poets of our time
Those who have music in their writing they dismiss as lacking in skill
If you want to feel bored join their forums and of boredom you will get your fill
Of cliques one can only feel dubious in their snobbish ways they are rude
Amongst their own small group important whilst all others they do exclude
They talk about senryu and haiku these forms of verse are Japanese
Verse forms not suited to English even when written by those with literary degrees
They talk about serious writers such as Eliot and Whitman and Poe
Great writers but surely not the greatest but leave it to them since they feel they know
Everything about poets and poetry and on such they like to have their say
The Human World is made up of all kinds including our poets of the day.
