I love you because
The mystery of your being
Fascinates me.
Every day you are
A rabbit pulled out of a hat
That seemed empty before.
And this is no trick
I know it is just you
Without effort or ruse.
Perhaps any soul
That let me get this close
Would have this same magic?
But that doesn't matter
(And this is like magic)
For I know you are mine.
Such a balm for my soul
That at times I forget
The wounded warrior.

There is much truth revealed in the lines PERHAPS ANY SOUL / THAT LET ME GET THIS CLOSE / WOULD HAVE THE SAME MAGIC? When soul-barriers come down, when a heart is open, when trust silences doubt, then we feel gratitude which is a wonderful accompaniment to love. Gratitude has to be one of our finest human emotions because its very nature is to create a link between two people, or strengthen an existing link. I really like this stanza.
