Poppa's sister's daughter was she,
Her deeds enrich my memory.
Years have passed by, yet she remains
Lovingly lodged there in my brain.
Long ago she helped me meet my wife,
Improving greatly my own life.
She's a cousin clever and friend forever.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
My cousin Phyllis passed away a few years ago. The picture is of her as a young girl.

Phyllis was more than a cousin; she was a good friend. As mentioned in the poem, she was the one who introduced me to the woman who would become my wife.
It wasn't until I got to working on the last line of this poem that I remembered that I had written another poem years ago and sent it to her. It was called 'Are Cousins Friends? ' and I still recall the first, second and last lines but not all the lines in between. This now becomes another of my 'lost poems' (See my poem 'Lost Poems') .

Since I wrote this, I actually found the carbon copy (yes, that's what we used decades ago) of the original poem that I sent to my cousin in 1963 or 1964. I think it was about a year ago that I found it, but I can't remember if I posted it here on PH. I will have to check and see.

I was zooming through your list of poems to gather the ones for June's showcase, and this poem's title caught my eye. so i backed up, but it really did NOT say syphilis, like i thought it had. that really happened; no offense meant. i called a female cousin today who was once MORE than a cousin and friend. i like this poem and that Phyllis did such a good deed for you years ago. a friend urged ME to look online for my 4th wife (8 years ago) so i guess i have him to blame............ i mean thank...........for that! gotta get back to what i was up to, but maybe i'll get to your 'lost poems' some day, especially if you send it to me. i CAN'T ignore my messages. i wouldn't be able to sleep at night. well, at least I could eat; nothing stops THAT! bri :)
