Please Don't Break A Poet's Heart Poem by Valerie Dohren

Please Don't Break A Poet's Heart

Rating: 5.0

Please don't break a poet's heart,
the Universe would cry -
don't take his words and scatter them,
on stony ground to lie.

Those words are plucked from angels' wings
and crystals set in snow -
from all those soft and tender things
upon the earth below.

He catches them from falling rain
and from the stars above -
then gently with his pen he moulds
and nurtures them with love.

Don't ever seek to steal his soul
and treat it with disdain -
For he would bleed a stream of tears
And could not bear the pain.

(If perchance you find me weeping
Lost in sorrow and despair -
Whisper softly words of comfort,
Tell me that you really care) .

Please don't break a poet's heart
the earth would cease to turn -
then all eternity would fade
the sun no longer burn.
