Poor Little Tortoise Poem by Juan Olivarez

Poor Little Tortoise

Rating: 5.0

Poor little tortoise, on the big four lane,
Endangered species little guy.
Crossing at this time are you insane?
just giving it the good old try.

I almost hit you are you ok?
Wait I'll turn back and see.
Oh my, a state trooper, coming this way,
I hope he lets me be.

Well I don't care, lets get out of here,
I'll take you far away.
Out to the ranch country, then I won't fear,
you won't make it through the day.

hello mr. trooper it's ok, I'm giving him a ride,
Out San Isidro way.
you know 107 is just too wide,
I just can't let him stay.

Thank you sir, you have a good one too,
I'll just be on my way.
This little guy is a Texan true,
But it almost wasn't his day.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This happened about two days ago. The little yellow and brown Texas tortoise is an endangered species and humans are not supposed to handle them. The trooper of course knew this and could have called in a game warden to fine me. however he was just as concerned about the little guy as I was and permitted me to take him out to the ranch country where he would be safe.

That tortoise would have been endangered if you had left it there, Juan to the rescue, great poem.
