I am a larva, a caterpillar
who entered her pupal slumber.
Yes! It is time I tear open
the prison of yarn for me you've spun.
I know, today I'll spring wings,
for me will open the skies endless
and my day will dawn, of a sun
that shines just for me, have no doubt!
I was a larva crawling,
a loathsome sight, sure,
but, when this night dawns
will I no longer squirm!
I'll be a butterfly fluttering across
the bright skies on my wings
as colourful as the rainbow,
as beautiful as a blossom.
devouring tasteless leaves
damaging the plants and trees
gnawing at loneness and fear
I lived a parasite, led a life of guile;
henceforth I will live on nectar sweet,
specially prepared for me to eat,
will lead a life fruitful, aiding pollination:
thus I'll be a cause of fruits in abundance.
I discard this life abominable
as a disgusting larva that wriggles,
the lofty birds of flight I'd join!
the world would, in awe, watch!
As Poet Geeta Radhakrishna Menon has said the caterpillar is a fitting metaphor for girls and girlhood. Thank you Alyx
A new dawn! Everyone has a right to dream one! As every larva should covet her life as a butterfly
