Refrescante Poem by Kim Barney

This poem is written in Portuguese. It was written probably in the 1970's, some time after I had returned to the U.S.A. after serving a mission in Brazil for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints.
Guaraná is a soft drink made from a berry that grows mainly in the Amazon basin.
I wrote the poem when I discovered that I could actually buy guaraná in the U.S.
The word 'saudade' has no really good translation, but roughly means longing, yearning, ardent desire, homesickness, or nostalgia.
Roughly translated, the poem means

Ah! Guaraná! What yearnings it gives to me!

My favorite brand of guaraná in the sixties was Brahma, and I was extremely disappointed when my wife and I came to Brazil on a tour in 2007 and discovered that the Brahma company no longer makes guaraná; they only make beer now. Most people like Antarctica brand, which is also available in the U.S., but my favorite now is probably Kuat, which is made by the Coca-Cola Company. I think it tastes more like the old Brahma than any of the others.
