Refugee Poem by Tom Allport

Refugee

Rating: 5.0

You might be a refugee
Yet...........to me
You are a human being
Someone who doesn't need forgiving
For fleeing your country
Full of death and despair...to be
Free in a new land
With love and hope to understand
Humanity is not all bad
Just some who have the will to make us sad.

i should hope (human) refugees are human beings! it's a good point to always remember. BUT remember too that not all refugees are the kind of people who you need to, or can, like. they, like people who have lived in your country or community for years and years, are some good people and some bad people. and generalizations can cause ill-feelings and stress at times. generally i like 'people', but there are some who, for any number of reasons, are ones i'll distance myself from if i can. this is not a comment meant to be ANTI-REFUGEES! it is a comment on ALL PEOPLE! and, as some 'locals' may have doubts about 'new-arrivals', 'new-arrivals' may have some doubts about 'locals'. By locals, i mean the people who have lived in an area a long time. it is understandable, especially, that IF people who are 'forced' (though maybe not always forced) to flee their countries arrive in a new area without much in the way of belongings or money or job prospects, they will easily cause financial and emotional woes for the new area government and citizens. bri ;)

Thoughtful poem. Nice that you look at an individual and evoke compassion that way.

Thank you so much for bringing a bit of light into such a sad treatment we humans seem to cling on despite of the abundant chances to open our minds and hearts. So glad you did it and try to open others too. Sending love thoughts to all the refugees in our world.
