Retrospect... Poem by Richard Wlodarski

Retrospect...

Rating: 4.8

Friend, sometimes time seems to drag on...and on...and on...
Hours to days...days to weeks...weeks to months...months to years...
And at other times...just yesterday...so many years into yesterday
Stolen moments rob us of the innocence of youth

Friend, sometimes our days together...lasting forever...happily
One hour...so many hours...good memories...you and me...and all our friends...
Yesterday today tomorrow melding...today succeeding
End of day...negative thoughts surfacing...positive ones dissipating...tomorrow fading

My friend, I didn't see your pain fast enough
Moved way too little way too late
Other than to dedicate
Some words in retrospect

Friend, you've become a memory now...today...and...tomorrow...
Sleep beckons...time is suspended...dreams await...goals unfulfilled
Nightmare fade away and from the darkness light us with a new day
Good night, my friend, may you now forever rest in peace

Very sober words, looking back we see so clearly, a very powerful poem written from a good heart, I had a childhood friend that died as an from drugs, I wrote a poem in retrospect regarding him called horizons, your poem is extremely well written my friend

Very moving, beautiful but sad. The mood is transmitted with a facility and feeling that many poems wish they would have had. Excellent piece! As fluent and touching as can be!

Sandra, thank you so much for your very kind words. It's so painfully difficult to write about a friend's suicide, so to receive this kind of feedback is very moving.
