Return Of The Romance Poem by Obed dela Cruz

Return Of The Romance

(These are the days when I just love God. Hey, I am a hardcore dude. Call me a Christian and make me proud of it but hey, I am not a religious person but God’s love is so amazing that makes me go poetic. God exists. God saves. God loves each and every one of us.)

I saw my Love with crystal tears falling from the eyes,
Looking like withered leaves as the body breaks apart.
Then I looked to other figures and grew cold as ice
Not knowing that I became a man who lost his heart.

With no identity as the mask consumed my face
For I hid who I am from the eyes of my Love past.
I isolated myself in a desolate place,
Lived not like a master but as a disgraced outcast.

Went gone came the heat of the flames of passion and love
For within a season autumn and winter unite
Yet the spring and summer appeared stronger with hope’s dove
And brought back to my weary soul blazing Holy Light.

Thorns were on the road as the rose was trampled and tossed —
Driven by the wind like waters with no direction
But though I sentenced the flower to forever’s lost,
It grew roots that reached even beyond Earth’s foundation.

As I passed the river where honey and nectar be,
A familiar aroma passed through and gave fragrance.
My Love, You were not just flashing back from memory —
You were there behind, t’was the return of the romance.

Dark shadows haunt not anymore my nights and dreams,
Weary days of great wandering visit me no more.
This romance is faithful even in times when it seems
That the horizon is tainted black by such horror.

The blossoming return of romance once thought faded
Endured long even in the eternity after,
Satisfied it wholly Sacred Blood that was once shed,
Poured for mankind’s sake and appeared as best Romancer.
