Down within, amidst the heart's abyss
Where light is scarce and dark serpents hiss
The eerie Doubt met the vile Despair
Waking Malice and her horrid glare
To set the snare for treacherous Desire
For the ignorant fool lit up a fire
And proud Ambition fell chained in her cage
Calling his name in a vicious rage
As loathly Envy screeched at Hope's mistake
And out of the dark came the hissing snake
Of scales black and venom for Love's demise
And the crones relished the fangs and grim eyes
For there is no remorse nor pity and defence
When you wake the serpent called Revenge.
