Out for a hike on the trails by the river,
Chilly early morning almost makes me shiver.
Deck over the swamp comes with a guardrail,
Red ants with a mound in the middle of the trail.
Canada geese by a pond filled to the brim,
One had goslings she was taking for a swim.
Got the impression that my friend was wishing
That he had brought a pole and had gone fishing.
A very loud sound came from the upper bogs,
Sounded like cicadas but was tiny little frogs.
Saw a red-winged blackbird sitting in a tree,
And a great blue heron was flying free.
Every little ways we stopped to read the sign,
When done we called our wives to see if they would dine.
I'm glad. That makes the poem a success. It's just down the hill from where I used to work.
That's a lovely poem. A beautiful descriptive write. I feel like visiting this place. You have given such a charming picture.
Thank you for your kind words. It's just a little spot in town by a river that was made by the city after they acquired the land.
I have never been to where you were describing But I could feel everything while I was reading Love this poem, thanks Spock-10+++
A beautiful poem, Spock. Colorado is spectacular, do you get to have outings like this and see these things?
