guzra waqt ab guzra waqt hi hai
yaad ho agar hum kya karna chahtay thay
aur us ko hum na kar baithay thay
kyon k hum ne us ko karnay ka
koi khas soch vichar na kiya tha.
jaisay ek ek kar un ko
ikhatha karnay ka main ne plan banaya tha -
har tarah ka tiptiya ghaas
har tarah ka gulbahar ka phool
hat tarah ka paintbrush ka phool
jo khet main ugay thay
jis k beech main the ek kutiya.
is se pehlay k vo sub murjha jaaeN
main un sub ko samajhna chahta tha.
guzra waqt ab guzra waqt hi hai
main us khet ko ab salute maarta hoon.

Past is past, and if one
remembers what one meant
to do and never did, is
not to have thought to do
enough? Like that gather-
ing of one each I
planned, to gather one
of each kind of clover,
daisy, paintbrush that
grew in that field
the cabin stood in and
study them one afternoon
before they wilted. Past
is past. I salute
that various field.
