Sanctuary City Poem by Richard Wlodarski

Sanctuary City

Rating: 5.0

They came from all over
Mothers and fathers
Brothers and sisters
Brothers in arms

They are not
Of one colour
Nor of one race
Nor of one creed

But I ask you
Do they drink
Same water
Shed same blood

Are they any less
Human than you or I
Do they not cry
When soul is hurt

We welcome you fellow beings
To this Sanctuary City
Haven for displaced souls
Forever remain blessed

There is a subtle sanctuary, a measure of hope, behind the words here, Richard. Despair, displacement, immigration are leaps into the unknown, and are often accompanied by fear. Your message of 'fear not' is likely one that the immigrant rarely, if ever, actually hears. A profound work. There is something about the language that reminds me of Immigrant Blues.

M.J., thank you for your insightful and positive feedback. I'm not familiar with that song, so I'll look it up. And thanks for the 10.
