Secret Surveillance Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Secret Surveillance

Why use binoculars.
And dress in camouflaged fatigues.
Hiding atop roofs.
To then jump from those roofs to trees.
Doing this done to spy on someone,
Who openly admits to crimes to commit.
Surrounded by cameras and news reporters.
Capturing every word.
Without omitting none of this.

And...
On a daily basis,
As millions of people view.
Brazen is this criminal.
Promising more crimes they will pursue.
Where and when to reveal names of others.
Equally as corrupted.
And motivated to deceive.
Yet...
The people who cheer,
Believe this is entertainment.
Free to receive.

"Uh...
I don't want to be one of those,
Party poopers.
You feel me?
But...
Shouldn't we be making the attempt,
To present our evidence.
Hoping to prevent more of this nonsense."

-Ssshhh.
Hush up.
Keep your voice down.
How many times do I have to tell you,
We have been assigned to provide...
Secret surveillance.-

"Secret surveillance. Secret surveillance.
This guy is holding a news conference.
Not one or two.
But on a daily basis he does this to do.
I feel like a fool dressed in camouflage.
Jumping from rooftops to trees.
Even the birds and squirrels,
Are looking at us.
As if we've lost our minds."

-Listen to me.
We will wait until,
There is more proof of wrongdoing...
Has been undeniably collected.
What we so far have,
Is nothing more but 'hearsay'.-

"Yeah!
Hearsay.
We hear from a crook's mouth,
Everyday to say...
What he's going to do next.
To do it done.
Then convinces everyone,
How corrupted they are.
And he is the victim."

-I know.-

"You know? "

-Yes.
I know.
And our mission is to reveal,
With this to discover...
How he has managed to require and develop,
Such skills and talents to deceive.-

"Why didn't you tell me that?
We may be secretly surveilling,
For a long long time.
What are you eating? "

-Pine nuts.
Jack gave them to me.-

"Pine nuts?
Who is Jack? "

-The squirrel.
The squirrel who sits with us everyday.
You know...
The one that kept looking at us,
With that suspicious stare.
His name is Jack.-
