Sheena: Jungle Woman Poem by Paula Glynn

Sheena: Jungle Woman

The legendary jungle woman Sheena
Having been orphaned after her parents murder
Their bodies gone before being able to be found
The cave collapsing during earthquakes that were very loud
The cave burying Sheena's parents bodies with painful sounds
Sheena remembering the silver elephant charm bracelet
Wrapped around the tree: for elephants do have long memories:
Memories that capture Sheena with nostalgia and sadness
Her old identity as Cheryl Hamilton gone but without madness.

But Sheena to discover a protective local shamaness named Kali
The woman's village accepting the white blonde girl
Knowing her parents deceased archaeologists leaving her at six years old
And their dark African skin not prejudiced against Sheena
And Sheena learns to become one of them: prays with them
Learning to communicate with animals and learning to shapeshift
But Sheena cannot stay in animal form for too long:
She'd become trapped in an animal's body and would be gone
The gift crafted by the ancient tribe Kya to which Sheena does belong.

Many criminals invading the Lamistas: Sheena's jungle
Some wanting illegal diamonds in the caves of the jungle
One wanting a medicinal plant to make him a lot of money
Two searching for a precious blue jewel stolen from Africa
Several wanting to steal a virus to make millions of pounds
One wanting to know the secrets of the Kya
The man searching for a way to turn human into animal
And another selling jirds to make an illegal profit
Being sent back to America for crime was her greedy deed.

They all visit to invade the Lamistas:
They come out of vanity and greed
They never gain what they think they need
Sheena once being caught on the arm only to bleed
But carries on with the strength to succeed
Sheena fights slavery officers and a cult leader
Sheena fighting Matt Cutter: their friendship rocky
Sheena and Cutter to forever bicker and Sheena does bite
Once getting into a very graphic and serious fight.

But they soon make up, spitting out poisonous cranberries
They soon forget however: the berries causing memory loss
Sheena and Matt Cutter no longer cross
And Sheena is always forgiven, a blonde beauty
That does climb trees, change into animals and fight crime
Leaving the criminals to be collected by the police
To have them serve their time, knowing they've done the crime
Them to realize no one will believe them about the transformation
Sheena not to ever offer an explanation.

And Sheena is also the Darak'na
Translating to shadow: the object of all men's fears
The Darak'na hiding in the nighttime, in the trees
Waiting for the corrupt to think they are pleased
Yet their plans always thwarted and when they tell no one believes
Sheena a heroine: taking a fight with guts, metal never rusted
Working hard to help the innocent gain justice for daughters and sons
Her friend and tribe-leader Kali protecting Sheena without guns
Sheena eradicating crime because she has won.

Very interesting story. Reading for the first time about life of Sheena. Nicely penned.
