SIGNIFICANCE OF THE CONCH
SHELL
The conch shell comes in various sizes and
shapes,
As a gift from the Gods from the very ocean's
depths!
Brings with it the primordial sound of His
creation;
It sounds the ' OM ', which gave birth, setting
the universe in motion!
With its inner walls shaped in a clock-wise
circular fashion;
Makes it the wind instrument of Lord Vishnu,
the preserver of all creation!
A few shells are found with anti-clockwise
spiral on its inner side,
Said to belong to Lord Shiva the destroyer, who
is not always very kind!
In Greek mythology the mighty Triton had blown
this shell,
To calm the magnitude of the lashing ocean's
waves and to cast a spell!
For the Tibetian Buddhist the conch shell, -
Holds the holy water, as a sacred receptacle!
The great warrior Arjuna in Mahabharata, used it
as a battle horn,
To announce the commencement of war at the break
of dawn!
Its vibration of ' OM ' is used in our weddings,
sacred rituals, and whenever occasion demands;
Also to pacify our mother earth, during it's sudden
sesmic dance!
Its sacred vibrations overpower forces of evil,
And its sound is said to deter the very devil!
When you hold a conch shell close to your ear,
You can hear the gentle humming of the ocean
very clear!
The dormant natural vibrations of cosmic energy
of the earth,
Gets magnified on entering the clock-wise groves
of the inner shell,
In synchronization with the harmony of the
universal!
It generates positive energy with beneficial psycho-
logical vibrations;
Such as courage, hope, optimism, will power
an determination!
The conch shell is a true gift from the Gods as
a benediction,
Which came from the churning of the mighty
ocean!
