Silence In The Sky Poem by David Harris

Silence In The Sky

Rating: 5.0

As I step outside
there is a silence in the sky.
The absence of planes
isn’t the only thing I cannot see.
There is an absence of birds as well,
there are a few,
but not as many as I used to see.
It is strangely quiet,
almost unnerving in ways.
The last time it felt like this
was when 9/11 happened.
Now a volcano in Iceland
and the sky is silent again.
No birdsong to greet the morning rise,
no flutter of tiny wings before my eyes.
The sun is out, the sky is blue,
but only silence fills the air.
