Silent Acquiesce - Poem by Nosheen Irfan

She must bury inside her
The ugly face of the world
That she has known
Through the years, since she was born
For the world will not bear
The stain upon its name
All her life she has learnt
To hush her voice about things untoward
To gaze not beyond the masks
For men must have their way
They must lay down the rules
For her to bow to and obey
Her voice is but a whimper
Beside the uproar men make
She must muffle her cries
Or sit in front of a mirror
Making up her beaten face
Pout, smile and look pretty
For she was born for this
Only this, she was told
She is but weak and failing
In life's wars and struggles
Never will she emerge winning
Against the might of the men
An object for men's dark passions
A silent acquiesce is her escape.

What an amazing poem, Nosheen! The speaker says she was taught to NOT speak, to remain silent even in the reality of abuse, and the purpose of female silence is to give men license. This system debases women as little more than possessions. But it also debases men making it so easy for them to sin against God's creation and then deny there is any wrong doing. Those men who abuse women and deny it is abuse are paving their own slide into hell. The men in charge have misled men intro thinking they are innocent when they persecute women.
But whether you invoke God, or karma, or just the neutral term fate, that is the moral force of the universe that will redress the imbalance. Oh, I didn't know beating up a woman was a sin. My male society said we have to control our women because they might commit sins. We were just protecting women from themselves. Such is the willful ignorance the Light of Truth blasts apart! And your poem participates in that just cause. Inshallah. Amen. So be it.

The worst part about this is that women must acquise and present themselves as the 'weaker sex', while most men, scratch that, almost all men would never admit that we have oppressed women for ages..

One of my college professor, mind you a professor with a bloddy PhD in Lawrence, said that women 'desire' to be abused/raped... It made me cringe, and I argued with him.. Something that ended my relationship with that man..

I can't understand how many men, and even some women, can be so much insensitive towards gender discrimination and violence..

I feel sick at the back of my throat when someone say that women ask for it! Hypocrites..

A very poignant poem Nosheen, one that must be read by everyone.. Thank you for sharing..
