Sinking Into Mediocrity Poem by Matthew Holloway

Sinking Into Mediocrity

Sinking into mediocrity
what has become of this world
where standards and expectations
have fallen away into nothingness
gone the days of the dedicated artist
who worked and crafted their dreams
who sought opportunity and took a risk
now the instant expectations demanded
no time to work and learn, develop
no ambition for the end game
being remembered, revered
known as an inspiration to others
a legacy built and left afterwards
no, few chase this now
fame, money, notoriety
style over substance
and that ever gradual slide
Sinking into mediocrity
what has become of this world
