I'm sure slaves, indentured servants, and U.S. Postal workers [ I was one ] had better or worse treatment depending on the 'boss'. bri ;)

Yup! I had my share of slave drivers. Bosses from ! But I had learned valuable lessons from them all. Bri, I enjoyed these exchange of comments. And you had inspired me to write Black Slaves and White Indentured Servants. Thx for the inspiration!

So, indentured servants were under contract to work, and it was a specified and agreed upon number of years, unlike slaves who, I believe, signed no contract and were 'owned' until sold to another 'master', or the owner granted the slave freedom.

Bri, I'm quite familiar with the history of slaves and indentured servants. Prior to your latest comment, I was composing a clever little ditty about such.

The meaning of INDENTURED SERVANT is a person who signs and is bound by indentures to work for another for a specified time especially in return for payment of travel expenses and maintenance.

I meant 'his'. But 'hid' works quite well.
