So You Want Me To Rate Your Poem Poem by Juan Olivarez

So You Want Me To Rate Your Poem

So you want me to rate your poem,
Cause you gave me a great big ten?
But thats not how it works my friend,
So please let us not choose to pretend.

If I read your poem, and maybe I will,
I will give you an appropriate score.
I'll not give you a ten, if your work makes me ill,
So don't be a terrible bore.

We would get along so very much better,
If honesty was, the law of the land.
So please let the jailor unloosen those fetters,
That tie up your ankles, your brain, and your hand.

So please lets be honest in rating,
Because that is what I'm going to be.
Cause for that ten you'll be waiting,
Till you write something appealing to me.

I think that your poem represents what a lot of us are feeling. While it is certainly nice to get 10's and I love the feed back, this site does have a you scratch my back and Ill scratch yours vibe. I enjoy learning from so many poets on this site that, it can ignore those irritating rating addicts.

You are so right. There is the other side of the coin where people give you a low score because they don't agree with what you poem says. That's not honesty either. It's the coward's way to give a comment anonymously.

Absolutely. You hit the nail on the head. So when somebody gives me a 10 on a poem they I myself consider mediocre just to get a 10 back on a worst poem. I mean we all put out some wishy washy stuff so some times. Well I do anyway. Thanks Spock. Live long and prosper.

A very well-written, frank but honest poem on rating and reciprocal reviews. I don't believe in ratings on poetry and never ask for reviews from fellow writers. It's not an obligation to read other people's poems or a need to reap number of reviews and comments.

We certainly get some odd requests at times. Private messages too, poets wanting you to write. I certainly understand the humour. Thank You
