Soledar City - Awaiting Humanity Not Hostility To Go On (Ukraine-Russia War) Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

A lost star always misses its prevalence in the night skies,
no one knows where it has fallen and if it will ever be found;
Soledar is that one city so pounded by soldiers and missiles
that no one knows why humanity is hiding and evading its duty;
and as the streets and apartments keep getting hit and damaged
will Soledar ever survive or revive in its full strength and glory
or will war bring to an end an era that was so full of unity?
no one knows the answer nor the price of war and its follies!

How many children walked to school holding their parents hands
how many families laughed and loved in those homes they lived,
I dare not imagine what it is out there
but all I can do is sit here and pray
that may patience and courage intermingle
and bring serenity and unity to those who stand there
and face the thunder and lightning of explosions;
So pray for Soledar, pray for its people,
pray for that city and its country Ukraine
as it is the onslaught of war which is so fearsome and so tragic.

Pray that war may stop its devastation and peace returns
as both countries keep losing soldiers and innocent citizens;
pray the anger and vendetta just vanishes
as it wrecks two nations - Ukraine and Russia
which were once so beautiful and so gentle,
so full of dignity and so respectful to humanity-
where is it all lost now, where has it all vanished-
the old and elderly keep asking themselves
and silently they hold back their tears with courage.
