Some Days, A Love Poem By Gigi Marks In Hindi/Urdu Translation

Kabhi Kabhi

main peDon k baaray sochti hoon
chinaar, dogwood, meetha maple
baDa khaDa shahabloot, fera hua devdaar,
un k pattay aur sueeaaN saaf saaf
jaisay hamaray hathoN ki ungliaN hon,
aur dekhti hoon main un ki gehri
sambhaav bhari jaaDain
k kis taraf vo chalti hain
hamari tarah raasta doondnaiN,
ek taraf jhukay huay aur doosri tarf
hari ankhoN se haray pattay dekhtay huay.
Jab main kehti hoon tum kitnay mere paas ho
koi chinta muje nahi hoti, kyon k
main peDon k baaray soch rehi hoti hoon
k vo kaisay baDtay rehtay hain
kaisay unki tehniaN aapas main
mil-jhul jaati hain
aur kaisay do peDon k neechay
cHaya ek peD se bhaD kar hoti hai,
dono ek doosray ko jaantay hain
aur dharti k under phailay rehtay hain.

Some Days

I think of the trees,
the sycamore, dogwood, sugar maple,
a stable oak, a twisted pine, and
see the leaves or needles
as clearly as we see the fingers on our hands,
and see the depth of their roots as possibilities,
as directions to follow, and that we are
directional ourselves, leaning one way
and staring with green eyes toward
leafy branches. When I say I am
no longer troubled by your closeness,
I am thinking of the trees, the way
trees grow, branches overlapping,
shade richer underneath two than one of them,
each grown accustomed to the roots that are
spreading together underground.
