'Sonnet 1' - Poem by Anthony Seyi Abiodun

Courtly crispy creamy skin of this belle
Sends forth a mesmeric snare for dandies
The songbird tells the meadow at the dell
Of a pretty queen who likes green candies
Manicure for hands, pedicure for feet
Colours bright and plain on her lips and brows
Flamboyant dresses shield her skin from heat
Her gait through the gate, men stumble and drowse
This girl, men travel land and sea to see
And to take their turns, they choose to tarry
Paying to the damsel a royal fee
Yet none of them she chooses to marry
But this skin of beauty shall soon wane out
And shall find no man to ask her about
