Sonnet: Most People Nowadays! Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: Most People Nowadays!

I see a world of vertebrates sans spines
In human beings right across the globe!
They seem to read most things between the lines,
And wear a mask with vanity as robe.

Most people love to stay as slaves these days;
They do not care to choose virtue o’er vice;
The love of wealth ill-gotten grows in ways;
Ignoring good advice, they’re worldly-wise!

Most God-women and men make easy sums
From persons wanting peace of mind and heart;
Their greed for lucre naturally comes;
They cheat the devotees by wily art.

And people fall an easy prey to ills;
They look to food-fads and the magic-pills.

Wonderful execution of sonnet and most importantly, a picturesque description of failing standards of society. Great poem indeed. :)
