Species Poem by Sandra Feldman

Species

Rating: 5.0

Species,
Why are there so many?
From the worm to the mammoth,
The species have traveled,
From ameba, to us,
The most mysterious
And the one,
That most makes, a fuss.

Why indeed? In fact, why life at all? And why intelligence? That's what sets the human species apart in a niche of both knowledge and loneliness. Let's get a group of animals to probe these questions. I'd wager what they'd see as ideal would be a steady supply of food and a safe place for sleeping. Only a human representative would say a third thing: And we need a round table with chairs for discussion! And a couple of recliners! And a blu ray player and netflix subscription! Suddenly the simple animal world is now the complicated human world.
