St Kabeer's Couplets 31:This Fleeting Human Life Poem by Aniruddha Pathak

St Kabeer's Couplets 31:This Fleeting Human Life

Rating: 5.0

Wood-like burns up every bone,
Like grass, the hair fondly grown,
Seeing the body so burn,
Kabeer was by gloom a torn.

Given here under is the original couplet in Hindi script, and its transliteration in English Roman.

हाड़ जलै ज्यूं लाकड़ी, केस जलै ज्यूं घास,
सब तन जलता देखि करि, भया कबीर उदास.

Hāđa jalai jyūn lākađī, kesa jalai jyūn ghās,
Sab tan jalatā dekhi kari, bhayā kabīra udās.

Kabeer continues with the theme. This death-prone life of mankind will one day die and shall be done to fire on a cremation pyre, when the bones shall burn like wood, and hair like dry grass. So seeing, Kabeer felt sad thinking about the fleeting nature of life.

Depicted so vividly how fragile life is... So let's live life to the fullest for no one knows what tomorrow may bring.
