Strangers Poem by Sarah Mc Cabe

Strangers

When two unknowns pass each other they don’t exchange a look.
This loss of communication is where loneliness can get us stuck.
We move unconsciously and keep on moving.
It’s only in later years when we need compassion we know we’re losing.

On one faithful day the eyes we meet are hard and sad.
But if we hold that gaze for a second longer we remember everything we ever had.
A flood of memories screams to be released from our mind.
The smile that cracks and the glisten in the eyes is a familiar kind.

To think you might never again see these eyes.
Makes it so hard not to cry.
When the moment comes when you remember each other.
You can’t imagine your life without one another.

From that day forward all is not lost.
You will protect, love and do anything for each other no matter what the cost.
